We all have our favourite destinations—those places that captured our hearts on our first visit or have lingered on our bucket lists for years, even if they’re harder to reach for one reason or another.

Fortunately, we’re here to help. We’ve got a talent for identifying what makes a destination special to you and can suggest alternative places that offer a similar charm. Some may be more familiar, while others might surprise you, but we hope to inspire your next adventure.

If you like Costa Rica... Try Sri Lanka

Costa Rica has had an undeniable boom in popularity over recent years – and for good reason. If you have already visited Costa Rica or are looking for similar experience, there are a whole host of similarities between Sri Lanka and Costa Rica.

Like Costa Rica, Sri Lanka combines beautiful beaches and lush green vegetation with diverse wildlife and a range of activities to experience. Sri Lanka benefits from an ancient history, with well preserved temples and extensive ruins, as well as tranquil tea estates as well as wildlife reserves, hiking trails and idyllic beaches.

If you like French Polynesia... Try the Seychelles

Known for turquoise waters, tropical vegetation and being an excellent place to island hop, French Polynesia has long been seen as one of the most idyllic places in the world. If you are looking for a similar experience, but without the 24 hours it can take to travel there, the Seychelles is a fantastic alternative.

With frequent ferries between the three main islands and the fact each island has a distinct character, it is the perfect place to island hop, while the clear waters and protected marine parks offer the chance to snorkel amongst vibrant coral and colourful fish.

If you like Mauritius... Try Rodrigues

We love Mauritius, but if like us you have visited many times over the years, do consider nearby Rodrigues. Whether you solely visit Rodrigues, or combine it with a stay in Mauritius, the island offers unspoilt nature and beautiful beaches as well as unique traditions and culture.

Often referred to as Mauritius’ ‘little sister’, Rodrigues is a Mauritian dependency. The island is relatively untouched by tourism however in recent years one of our favourite groups, Constance Hotels & Resorts, has opened their first venture on the island, Constance Tekoma.

If you like the UAE... Try Oman

When it comes to luxury hotels and relaxing breaks in the middle east, the UAE is often at the front of people’s minds. Both Dubai and Abu Dhabi are very popular, but if you are looking for a destination which combines the modern feel of the UAE with a rich culture and beautiful, diverse landscapes, consider Oman.

Oman is a beautiful country, home to rugged mountains, vast desert and pristine beaches along the coastline. Visit historic fortresses and markets, learn about rosewater harvesting and nomadic cultures and try delicious Omani cuisine.

If you like the Caribbean... Try Mauritius

The Caribbean is incredibly popular when it comes to destinations that offer tropical weather, an abundance of water sports and luxurious beach resorts. If you have experienced the Caribbean and are looking for an alternative, Mauritius offers a similar trip. In our opinion, it does so with premium service levels and comparatively good value for money.

With a number of resorts offering activities that include complimentary water sports, golf courses, kite surf schools and tennis courts, as well as popular kids clubs, relaxing spas and gourmet restaurants, there is a hotel for everyone.

If you like the Azores... Try Saint Helena

The Azores, like Saint Helena, are known for their untouched natural beauty. If you have already explored the Portuguese islands and fell in love with their unique history, endemic wildlife and verdant green landscape, then Saint Helena should definitely be next on your list.

Saint Helena is a fascinating, remote destination, with a well-documented history and some incredible nature to explore. The temperate weather means it can be a year-round destination, but we would recommend visiting between December and March – when whale sharks can be spotted in the surrounding waters.

Saint Helena

If you like Madeira... Try Reunion

Madeira offers an array of activities alongside warm temperatures and diverse landscapes, which is why it has been popular with British tourists. In much the same way, Reunion is the perfect destination for travellers looking to combine a beach destination with the ability to explore dramatic volcanic scenery and experience authentic culture.

Reunion offers breathtaking volcanic landscapes, lush rainforests, and stunning beaches. The more adventurous visitor can hike Piton de la Fournaise, an active volcano, or explore Cirques de Mafate, while those looking to relax and unwind can enjoy delicious local cuisine, visit historical sites in Saint Pierre and learn about the island’s unique traditional music and dance.
