Laikipia Plateau, Samburu National Reserve & the Masai Mara

Enjoy the varied landscapes and wildlife found throughout Kenya with a luxurious adventure through three stunning locations. Visit conservancies leading the way in successfully blending tourism, conservation and local communities while staying at luxurious camps for an unforgettable trip.

Day 01

After arriving in Nairobi, transfer to your hotel for the night, Emakoko.  Emakoko is a beautiful, boutique lodge within Nairobi National Park which borders Kenya's capital.

Day 02

Transfer to Wilson airport for a light aircraft flight to Borana Conservancy, where you will stay at Borana Lodge. Spend the first afternoon enjoying a game drive within the wildlife-rich conservancy. Look out for rare species including Grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe, which are only found in the northern parts of Kenya.

Day 03

Explore the Borana Conservancy.  Try a horseback safari, enjoying the tranquil landscape while crossing the plains looking for wildlife such as giraffe, zebra and eland. Alternatively, join the conservancy scouts and assist in the daily rhino tracking or visit a local Masai community and learn about their culture.

Day 04

Fly on to your next camp, Sarara Camp.  Located in Samburu with incredible views over the Matthews Mountain Range, Sarara is set in a beautiful and unique part of Kenya's wilderness. The area is home to the largest herd of Reticulated Giraffe as well as a large number of elephants, leopard, wild dogs and huge variety of birdlife.

Day 05

Visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and learn about the fantastic work carried out to help orphaned and abandoned elephant calves in the area, with the aim of releasing the calves back into the wild. If you are lucky, spend time with the Samburu people and witness the warrior's traditional singing wells.

Day 06

Continue to the Masai Mara and your final camp; Cottar's 1920's Camp. The camp is a characterful, luxurious camp that is still owned and operated by the Cottar family.  Enjoy your first afternoon in the magical Masai Mara, exploring the Olderkesi Conservancy on a game drive.

Day 07 - 08

Spend your time at Cottar's 1920's Camp exploring the incredible wildlife found in the area with some of Kenya's leading guides.  For an exceptionally special experience, try balloon ride over the Masai Mara as the sun rises.

Day 09

Travel back to Nairobi by light aircraft before flying home after an unforgettable trip.

FAQs

Why book a tailor-made holiday with a luxury travel specialist?

The best trips feel effortless, but behind every seamless journey is thoughtful planning and genuine expertise. A luxury travel specialist brings first-hand destination knowledge, trusted recommendations and personalised service to every itinerary, ensuring your holiday is shaped around you. From choosing the finest hotels and experiences to managing all the finer details, tailor-made travel allows you to make the most of your time away without the stress of organising it yourself.

What types of holidays do you specialise in?

Love To Explore specialises in thoughtfully crafted journeys designed entirely around each individual traveller. From slow, sun-drenched escapes on idyllic Indian Ocean islands to immersive, adventure-led safaris through the African wilderness, every trip is shaped by personal style and pace. While Africa and the Indian Ocean remain at the heart of what we do, our trusted network of local experts allows us to extend far beyond, opening the door to extraordinary destinations across the globe.

How far in advance should I book a holiday?

There is no single rule when it comes to booking your next escape, as every journey is completely bespoke. Whether you’re planning a special milestone trip years in advance or seeking a spontaneous last-minute escape, we can help shape it at any stage. That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
