From Enquiry to Experience: A Love To Explore Case Study

9 April 2026

We pride ourselves on working collaboratively with our clients and our local partners to create truly unique and unforgettable trips. One of our clients has recently returned from an incredible journey through India, Bhutan and Nepal.

Today, we wanted to take you through the Love To Explore experience, from the initial enquiry to returning home. A special thank you to John for allowing us to share his trip, and for the incredible photos he captured along the way, which feature throughout this blog.

The Enquiry

John is on a mission to tick off countries he has never visited before. After travelling to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with Love To Explore last year, he decided the next destinations on his list were India, Nepal and Bhutan.

When he first spoke to us, John had an AI-suggested outline of the trip, along with a few hotel ideas. This was based on several places he definitely wanted to visit, including Varanasi, the Taj Mahal and Tiger's Nest, to name a few.

One of the benefits of knowing our clients well is that we can offer tailored recommendations we know you will enjoy. Whether it is your first trip with Love To Explore or your fifth, we take the time to understand what you hope to experience, as well as how you like to travel, the types of accommodation you prefer and your specific interests.

For John, this meant maximising photography opportunities and ensuring plenty of authentic experiences with knowledgeable local guides, allowing him to get the most out of every destination.

The Planning Process

Knowing John well, and having recently returned from India himself, Ludo had a few initial suggestions to refine the itinerary. Armed with John’s outline and his own insights, Ludo began discussions with our local partners in India, Periplus.

The team at Periplus came back with a range of suggestions to improve the itinerary, highlighting that while AI can be useful as a starting point, it cannot replace first-hand knowledge and years of experience.

These recommendations focused on the pace and routing of the trip, as well as safety considerations around air travel in Nepal. By simplifying the route, removing a destination that did not add anything significantly unique, and allowing more time in key locations, we created the foundations of a fantastic itinerary.

After reviewing the itinerary together, we needed to refine it slightly further to bring it within budget. We achieved this by selecting alternative hotels in certain destinations, swapping some ultra-luxury properties for more owner-operated boutique options that still offered comfort and character, but without the full range of facilities found in larger, well-known hotels.

We did, however, retain some standout luxury properties where they genuinely enhanced the experience, whether through exceptional service or a truly unique setting.

The Final Itinerary

Thirteen nights in India visiting Mumbai, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Varanasi and Delhi. The itinerary was packed with excursions including walking tours that visited local artisans, a rickshaw tour operated by a not-for-profit that provides employment for low-income women and the chance to experience evening aarti ceremonies.

Three nights in Nepal, exploring Kathmandu and iconic sites that included Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa.

Four nights in Bhutan, split between staying in Thimpu and Paro to ensure time to experience the museums and sites of the capital city as well as hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery.

The Pre-Departure Information

Our clients receive their final documents via an app, which includes a detailed day-by-day itinerary, live flight information, as well as any tickets or vouchers required, and essential country information. For destinations such as India, Nepal and Bhutan, this includes important details like visa requirements, alongside practical tips on adaptors, currency and local dishes to look out for.

For those who like to immerse themselves more deeply in a destination, we also include a selection of recommended books and podcasts, along with a curated playlist.

In the lead-up to departure, we remain on hand to answer any questions, no matter how small.

The Trip Experience

For a little peek behind the scenes, we receive regular updates from our local partners throughout your trip. In this case, it ranged from confirming John had arrived safely and met his driver, to notes highlighting when elements of the trip had gone particularly well or needed to be adjusted on the go.

Our local partners were also able to add thoughtful touches along the way, from sourcing wine during his stay at a dry hotel to arranging a complimentary airport meet and greet in Nepal, ensuring a smoother journey following a flight delay.

We also stay in touch directly, as much or as little as you prefer. Ludo and John checked in periodically, and we loved seeing John’s photos as he travelled. Any feedback you share while away is invaluable, allowing us to resolve any issues before they become problems, although in this case, everything ran smoothly.

Working with trusted local partners means these personal touches continue throughout your trip, not just during the planning stage.

John's Feedback

The highlights for me were seeing Amber Fort in Jaipur, visiting Varanasi, which was mind-blowing, and the hike to the Tiger's Nest in Bhutan. The only thing I would have changed is less of the teaching about Buddha, sometimes it continued for a few hours!

The guides made it completely seamless throughout, from getting off the plane when I first arrived to leaving to return to the UK, there was always someone there.

FAQs

Why book a tailor-made holiday with a luxury travel specialist?

The best trips feel effortless, but behind every seamless journey is thoughtful planning and genuine expertise. A luxury travel specialist brings first-hand destination knowledge, trusted recommendations and personalised service to every itinerary, ensuring your holiday is shaped around you. From choosing the finest hotels and experiences to managing all the finer details, tailor-made travel allows you to make the most of your time away without the stress of organising it yourself.

What types of holidays do you specialise in?

Love To Explore specialises in thoughtfully crafted journeys designed entirely around each individual traveller. From slow, sun-drenched escapes on idyllic Indian Ocean islands to immersive, adventure-led safaris through the African wilderness, every trip is shaped by personal style and pace. While Africa and the Indian Ocean remain at the heart of what we do, our trusted network of local experts allows us to extend far beyond, opening the door to extraordinary destinations across the globe.

How far in advance should I book a holiday?

There is no single rule when it comes to booking your next escape, as every journey is completely bespoke. Whether you’re planning a special milestone trip years in advance or seeking a spontaneous last-minute escape, we can help shape it at any stage. That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
