Love To Explore Rating: Premium

Set on the banks of the East Rangá River in South Iceland, Hotel Rangá is a welcoming countryside hotel with a rustic charm. Surrounded by open landscapes, mountains and distant glaciers, it offers an excellent base for exploring the region’s waterfalls, black-sand beaches and volcanic scenery, with Reykjavík around an hour’s drive away.

The hotel has 52 rooms and suites, each individually decorated with colourful artwork, handcrafted furnishings and comfortable interiors. While the standard rooms have a cosy, relaxed feel, the larger suites take inspiration from different continents, with distinctive designs and characterful details.

Rangá Restaurant serves Nordic-inspired cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients in an inviting setting. Outside, three geothermal hot tubs provide a relaxing spot to unwind after a day of exploring, while the hotel’s on-site observatory offers guided stargazing sessions using powerful telescopes. In winter, a Northern Lights wake-up service means guests can be alerted when the aurora appears overhead.

Family-owned and known for its personal service, Hotel Rangá has a warm, informal atmosphere that makes it particularly appealing to couples and adventurous travellers. With excellent access to South Iceland’s natural attractions and a strong focus on memorable experiences, it is a comfortable and characterful base for discovering the country’s extraordinary landscapes.

At Love To Explore, we would recommend the resort for these unique selling points:

  • Prime location for Northern Lights
  • Rustic charm
  • Warm, welcoming service

“I particularly loved the Northern Lights wake-up call service. Rather than spending the entire evening staring at the sky, you can head to bed knowing the team will alert you if the lights appear.”

FAQs

Why book a tailor-made holiday with a luxury travel specialist?

The best trips feel effortless, but behind every seamless journey is thoughtful planning and genuine expertise. A luxury travel specialist brings first-hand destination knowledge, trusted recommendations and personalised service to every itinerary, ensuring your holiday is shaped around you. From choosing the finest hotels and experiences to managing all the finer details, tailor-made travel allows you to make the most of your time away without the stress of organising it yourself.

What types of holidays do you specialise in?

Love To Explore specialises in thoughtfully crafted journeys designed entirely around each individual traveller. From slow, sun-drenched escapes on idyllic Indian Ocean islands to immersive, adventure-led safaris through the African wilderness, every trip is shaped by personal style and pace. While Africa and the Indian Ocean remain at the heart of what we do, our trusted network of local experts allows us to extend far beyond, opening the door to extraordinary destinations across the globe.

How far in advance should I book a holiday?

There is no single rule when it comes to booking your next escape, as every journey is completely bespoke. Whether you’re planning a special milestone trip years in advance or seeking a spontaneous last-minute escape, we can help shape it at any stage. That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
