Kuthengo Camp is located in the Liwonde National Park, along the floodplains of the Shire River. Kuthengo (meaning “the wild” in Chichewa) provides an authentic safari experience with a focus on comfort and environmental sustainability.
The camp has just four spacious safari tents, each featuring a large en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. Each tent is designed to blend with its surroundings, while still enjoying luxurious amenities. Dining at Kuthengo is a communal, with delicious meals often served al fresco under the starlit sky offering the chance to swap stories and experiences from the day’s activities.
Kuthengo Camp provides a variety of safari experiences, including game drives, river safaris, and walking safaris. Guests can enjoy Liwonde’s abundant wildlife, including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, antelope, and an impressive variety of bird species. One of the highlights is the chance to see Malawi’s growing population of black rhinos and reintroduced cheetahs and lions. Sightings of cheetah and lions are increasing every year which is rewarding. Keen birdwatchers should look out for species including Pel’s fishing owl, Livingstone’s flycatcher and Boehm’s bee-eater, along side over 400 other bird species which are found in Liwonde.

That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
