Love To Explore Rating: First Class

Southern Ocean Lodge is set on the rugged limestone cliffs of Kangaroo Island. The lodge reopened in 2023 after being rebuilt following the 2020 bushfires, with a stunning contemporary design that capitalises on the setting’s natural beauty.

The lodge features 25 ocean-facing suites, each designed to maximise panoramic views of the Southern Ocean and surrounding wilderness. Suites range from the Flinders Suite, with sunken lounges and floor-to-ceiling windows, to the expansive four-bedroom Baillie Pavilion.

Dining at Southern Ocean Lodge focuses on the best local ingredients, with a daily changing menu which showcases fresh, seasonal produce from Kangaroo Island and South Australia's renowned wine regions.

Guests are able to explore the island landscapes through a range of guided experiences, including visits to Seal Bay Conservation Park, hikes to the Remarkable Rocks, and opportunities to observe native species such as kangaroos, koalas, and sea lions in their natural habitats.

Southern Ocean Lodge has implemented eco-friendly practices throughout its operations, including the planting of over 50,000 native plants to create natural firebreaks and support local biodiversity during the recent reconstruction.

With its exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, and captivating setting, Southern Ocean Lodge offers an unforgettable stay in one of Australia's iconic destinations.

At Love To Explore, we would recommend the resort for these unique selling points:

  • Welcoming, friendly service
  • Unique destination with panoramic views
