Golf Around the World: Our Ultimate Guide

16 April 2026

Whether the golf lovers among you are planning a dedicated trip focused on golf, or simply want to squeeze in 18 holes as a perk while travelling to some of the world’s most picturesque destinations, our portfolio is filled with impressive courses. Here is a selection of our favourites:

Indian Ocean

When it comes to golf in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius really is the best destination. The small island is home to ten 18-hole golf courses, so there is plenty of variety, and many of the courses are not only championship standard but also in beautiful settings.

Mauritius is a year-round golf destination. If you are looking to maximise value for money, we would recommend visiting between April and October, when you can expect lower rates, slightly milder temperatures, lower humidity, but still plenty of sunshine.

Outside Mauritius, you can find selected golf opportunities to keep keen golfers entertained and in shape but the breadth of golf courses is limited.

Mauritius

Constance Belle Mare Plage

There are two USPGA standard 18-hole golf courses at Constance Belle Mare Plage, the Legends course and the Links course, alongside a practice fairway and golf academy. Both Constance Prince Maurice and Constance Belle Mare Plage have access to both courses, with guests enjoying relatively low green fees and amenities.

During the low season, a week’s stay at Constance Belle Mare Plage on an All-Inclusive package, which includes unlimited green fees, is often less than a short golf trip in Europe, even with flights included.

Heritage Golf Club

The Heritage Golf Club is home to two 18-hole championship golf courses, which have hosted the DP World Tour, as well as a 9-hole Par 3 course. Guests have plenty of options for accommodation, and can stay at either the Heritage Le Telfair, Heritage Awali or Heritage The Villas.

Our tip for those with serious golf plans is to look at the “Gourmet Bliss” package at Le Telfair which includes unlimited green fees and shared golf cart access at Le Chateau Golf Course and one green fee per person on the newly complete La Reserve course.

Heritage Le Telfair

Mauritius

Ile Aux Cerfs

When it comes to idyllic locations, the Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club certainly fits the bill. The Bernhard Langer-designed course stretches across an island set off the east coast of Mauritius, with ocean views from every hole. The course is gently undulating and spread across 38 acres of lush tropical landscape.

Accessed only by a ‘special golf’ boat shuttle, guests at the nearby Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita and Shangri-La Touessrok are best placed to access the course, although it is open to golfers from across the island.

Seychelles

Constance Lemuria

Not only is it the Seychelles’ only 18-hole golf course, but Constance Lemuria also has to be one of the most picturesque courses we have seen. With stunning ocean views from terraced greens and a lush tropical backdrop, the challenging course is hard to resist. Even more so when you hear that guests enjoy complimentary green fees.

If the non-golfers amongst the party still want to enjoy the spectacular 15th hole, guests can also enjoy a private sunset experience with champagne and canapés.

Maldives

Hideaway Maldives

The Maldives offers very limited options when it comes to golf, so keen golfers will have to turn to modern technology if they are looking to hone their swing. Hideaway offers a putting green, resident golf pro and state-of-the-art golf simulator.

Alongside this, the resort has plenty of Eco-bio Balls on hand so that golfers can practice their swing from any beach on the island.  The balls are 100% biodegradable and filled with non-toxic fish food that helps support marine life.

South Africa

South Africa is one of the world’s most rewarding golf destinations, where expertly designed courses sit alongside some of the most dramatic landscapes on the continent.

Many layouts are the work of leading international and local architects, yet green fees and stays can still offer excellent value compared to other long-haul golf destinations.

What really sets it apart is the ability to combine a round with unforgettable experiences beyond the fairways, from vineyard-hopping in the Cape Winelands, to exploring rich cultural heritage, to heading out on safari in search of the Big Five.

Cape Town

Steenburg Golf Club

Set against the Constantia Valley’s vineyards, Steenberg Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship course designed by Peter Matkovich, with a practice range and putting greens. The course winds through rolling fairways, water features, and mountain views, creating a relaxed yet refined playing experience.

Guests at Steenberg Hotel enjoy preferential tee times and quality clubhouse facilities. A stay here is the perfect way to combine golf with wine tasting and fine dining, and it is ideal for those looking to explore Cape Town.

The Garden Route

Fancourt Links Golf Course

Set in George, along the Garden Route, Fancourt Hotel presents an expansive golfing escape, home to three Gary Player-designed courses, including the renowned Links, Montagu, and Outeniqua layouts. Practice facilities, a golf academy, and immaculate conditioning cater to players of all levels.

Guests get the perk of priority tee times and full use of the top-notch facilities, while the wide-open countryside gives everything a more relaxed, spacious feel. Golf here is more immersive and championship-focused, but still easy to enjoy, with luxury rooms and a laid-back resort atmosphere.

Greater Kruger

Leopard Creek Country Club

Right on the edge of the bush, Leopard Creek Country Club is all about the setting. The Gary Player-designed course runs alongside the Crocodile River, with Kruger National Park just across the water. It’s not unusual to spot elephants, hippos or even crocodiles during a round, which makes every hole feel pretty unforgettable. The course itself is beautifully kept, but it’s really the wildlife and scenery that steal the show.

Guests staying at selected safari lodges in the region can arrange access, including Jock Safari Lodge, Londolozi and Lion Sands, adding a seriously memorable round to a safari stay.

Caribbean

Golf in the Caribbean is all about warm waters, palm-framed fairways and that unmistakable tropical backdrop. Courses are often set in spectacular coastal locations, designed to make the most of ocean views and trade winds.

That said, golf here can also be quite exclusive, with limited tee times and higher green fees at many of the region’s top resorts. The result is a more curated experience; relaxed in feel, but often tied to luxury hotels where access to courses and availability are part of the appeal.

St Kitts & Nevis

Four Seasons Nevis

Set beneath the slopes of Nevis Peak, the Four Seasons Resort Nevis golf course offers a relaxed yet scenic 18-hole round designed by Robert Trent Jones II. It’s a compact but characterful layout, with palm-lined fairways, glimpses of the Caribbean Sea, and the volcano rising in the background.

Guests staying at the resort enjoy easy access and a laid-back, friendly atmosphere on the course. Green fees start from $170 for 18-holes with golf pros on-site for lessons.

St Vincent & the Grenadines

Canouan

On the tiny island of Canouan in the Grenadines, the Jim Fazio-designed 18-hole course at Canouan Estate is all about ocean views, rolling hills and a surprisingly varied layout for such a compact island. Fairways sweep between tropical greenery and elevated ridges, with constant glimpses of turquoise sea below. It’s peaceful, uncrowded and feels very exclusive.

For the full luxurious tropical island experience, stay at Mandarin Oriental Canouan, with easy access to the course, beautiful suites and plenty of time to enjoy the island between rounds.

Saint Lucia

Cabot Point

Set on Saint Lucia’s rugged northwest coast, Cabot Point is a striking new golf destination carved into cliffs above the Caribbean Sea. The course is designed to take full advantage of its dramatic setting, with elevated tees, ocean views and fairways that weave through natural headland terrain. Even in its early days, it’s already earning attention for its unforgettable scenery.

Our recommendation would be to stay at the nearby boutique hotel, Cap Maison, which is less than a 10-minute drive from the course.

Barbados

Sandy Lane

Set along Barbados’ Platinum Coast, Sandy Lane offers one of the island’s most exclusive golf experiences. There are three beautifully maintained courses, with the Country Club being the main 18-hole layout designed by Tom Fazio. It’s the most playable of the trio, with generous fairways, smooth greens and a relaxed rhythm framed by tropical landscaping. Nearby, the Old Nine offers a shorter, more classic round, while the Green Monkey, carved from a former quarry, is the most exclusive and dramatic.

Guests staying at Sandy Lane Hotel enjoy priority access across the courses, making it easy to experience each one.

Barbados

Royal Westmoreland

Set on Barbados’ west coast, Royal Westmoreland offers a classic Caribbean golf experience with a well-manicured 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Rolling fairways, coastal breezes and glimpses of the sea make for a relaxed but rewarding round. The layout is known for being both playable and strategic, with plenty of water features and bunkering.

Visitors are welcome but tee times are very limited, so it can be challenging to confirm, and green fees start from US$375 per visitor.

Beyond Our Core

Our “Beyond Our Core” destinations take you from far-flung escapes to closer-to-home breaks, all united by one thing: some unforgettable courses in incredible settings. Expect world-famous courses and hidden gems alike, each offering something striking and memorable, whether it’s dramatic landscapes, coastal drama or beautifully designed fairways that make every round feel special.

Malaysia

The Els Club Teluk Datai

Tucked between rainforest and the Andaman Sea, The Els Club Teluk Datai is all about the setting; a stunning Ernie Els-designed course on Langkawi where jungle spills right down to the fairways. It’s not unusual to see monkeys, hornbills or even dusky leaf langurs as you play, with ocean views opening up between the trees.

The course is beautifully maintained, but it’s the mix of rainforest, wildlife and coastline that really makes it special. It’s an unforgettable round that feels a world away from anywhere else and a memorable addition to a stay at The Datai.

The Datai

New Zealand

Cape Kidnappers

Perched high above the Pacific Ocean, Cape Kidnappers delivers a dramatic clifftop round unlike anywhere else in New Zealand. Designed by Tom Doak, the course stretches across rugged headlands with huge fairways and jaw-dropping sea views at every turn.

Staying at neighbouring Rosewood Cape Kidnappers makes it all feel effortless, with easy access to the course as well as plenty to do outside of golf, from farm tours and gannet colony walks to wine tasting and relaxed lodge dining. It’s as much about the experience beyond the fairways as the golf itself.

Portugal

Viceroy Ombria Algarve

Hidden in the Algarve’s countryside, Viceroy at Ombria feels a world away from the region’s busier coastal resorts. The course, recognised as one of the best new golf courses in 2024, weaves naturally through rolling hills, with a more understated, back-to-nature feel than many of its neighbours.

It’s an easygoing place to play, where the scenery is just as much a highlight as the golf. Off the course, there’s plenty to dive into, from slow-paced dining and spa time to exploring traditional villages nearby.
