Ceylon Tea Trails is a collection of five historic tea planters’ bungalows, nestled in the heart of the breathtaking Central Highlands. Located near Hatton, the bungalows offer an immersive experience in the country’s renowned tea culture. Set amidst lush tea plantations, rolling hills, and serene lakes and reservoirs, Ceylon Tea Trails is a haven for nature lovers.
Each bungalow is unique, but every one exudes the same old-world charm with elegant furnishings, four-poster beds, and antique décor. Each bungalow has between four and six suites and is surrounded by a lush, manicured garden. Guests can expect personalised service with private butlers, gourmet dining, and guided tours of the tea estates. Ceylon Tea Trails is part of the Relais & Châteaux collection, ensuring impeccable service and dining standards.
Guests have the opportunity to visit to a working tea factory, where they can learn about tea production, from plucking to processing, and enjoy a Ceylon tea tasting. Beyond this, explore scenic walking trails, cycle through the misty hills, or kayak across the still waters on Castlereagh Lake. Guests can also venture further afield and visit nearby temples and villages to learn about the area’s history.

That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
