Ratwatte Walauwa, formerly The Kandy House, is a boutique hotel set about 20 minutes from the centre of bustling Kandy. Once a manor house belonging to an aristocratic Sri Lankan family, the 18th Century building is one of Sri Lanka’s original boutique hotels. Surrounded by lush gardens, the hotel feels like a tropical haven. There are just nine bedrooms, and a no children policy, which maintains the tranquillity. Each of the rooms are unique, with antique furniture, four poster beds and ‘boho-chic’ touches. Guests dine on the open air terrace, overlooking the gardens. The menu offers Sri Lankan curries alongside Asian fusion cuisine. Explore the local area on foot or borrow a complimentary bicycle before returning to relax beside the shaded swimming pool. Ratwatte Walauwa is a lovely boutique property, with plenty of character.
