Southern Tanzania
Love To Explore Rating: Economy
Lake Natron Camp is a unique camp, set in a beautifully remote location on the banks of Lake Natron.
There are just ten tents at the camp, named “bedu shade” tents. The unique design was created by the camps founder, and is inspired by traditional Bedouin tents with an extended mesh net to help keep guests cool. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with eco toilet and a shower, as well as a porch area which allows guests space to relax in the shade. Each tent has a private path, leading to the spring-fed stream and soda lake that forms a refreshing natural swimming pool.
The draw at Lake Natron Camp, alongside the incredible setting, is the variety of activities available in the surrounding area. The camp works as a fantastic base for hikes – whether they are one-day long hikes nearby or a 4 day extended trek that starts from the camp. The breathtaking scenery and geographical features offer some of the best routes in Africa. Lake Natron itself is also a fascinating place to explore; the camp is within walking distance of fossilised hominid footprints, which date back over 120,000 years, and the lake is the largest breeding ground in the world for the Lesser Flamingo.
At Love To Explore we would recommend the lodge for these unique selling points:
- Unique, remote location
- Excellent hikes and treks
