Pole Pole is a laid-back beach-front lodge, set on Mafia Island. The eco-lodge overlooks Chole Bay and the Mafia Island Marine Park, with nine bungalow suites set amongst the coconut palms that frame the beach. Each of the bungalows has a large private veranda with a Zanzibari day bed – the perfect place to relax with a good book. There are three bungalows which cater to families and larger groups, sleeping up to 4 people. The lodge’s restaurant serves a daily changing menu which combines Italian flavours with local seafood and organic, seasonal produce. The lodge works with the nearby dive centre, Big Blu, for those looking to explore the nearby dive sites and marine park, or wish to swim with whale sharks. The lodge can also arrange land-based excursions to local markets, villages and nearby beaches. Pole Pole’s relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and idyllic setting make it the perfect escape from everyday life.

There is no single rule when it comes to booking your next escape, as every journey is completely bespoke. Whether you’re planning a special milestone trip years in advance or seeking a spontaneous last-minute escape, we can help shape it at any stage. That said, for the best choice of boutique lodges and the most sought-after properties, we recommend beginning the planning process around nine months to a year ahead, allowing the widest possible access to availability and experiences. For certain safari lodges and iconic seasonal moments, such as Japan’s cherry blossom season, we would advise planning up to two years in advance.
